Shops allow Melinoë to spend various currencies to purchase upgrades. Most shops must be unlocked using various Incantations before they will appear.
Shops encountered during a run charge 
Golden Crowns in exchange for various boosts to the current run. The exception is Charon's shop in Tartarus, which offers a variety of permanent currencies in exchange for your ephemeral Golden Crowns.
The 
Wretched Broker in the Crossroads will buy and sell various items for 
Bones. Near him is a dock where 
Obol Points can also be spent.
