The City of Ephyra is the first Region of the Surface.

Initially the surface is warded, requiring an Incantation to allow access. Upon arriving, Melinoë will take rapidly increasing damage while on the Surface, preventing any significant progress. A second Incantation is needed to prevent this damage, but is only unlocked upon reaching the area; the area also contains items needed for the second Incantation, so prepare to die a few times!

Chambers[edit | edit source]

City of Ephyra contains a total of 9 Chambers. The first Chamber is outside the City. The 3rd-8th Chambers each require destroying a Soul Pylon to lower the barrier around the exit. The 9th Chamber is always Charon's Shop, and the final Chamber is the Guardian.

Chaos Gates have a unknown chance to spawn.
Wells of Charon have a unknown chance to spawn.
There is never a mid-Region Charon Shop.
The mid-Region Mini-boss is sometimes a choice for a Pylon Chamber.

The Regional Ally sometimes shows up as a Pylon Chamber
Unlike other Regions, there is a single-use Fountain in the main City area that can be used between Pylon Chambers

Encounters[edit | edit source]

Pylon Chambers will sometimes contain Bonus Rooms after clearing the Encounter and collecting your reward. These extremely small rooms involve only a single wave of foes, and do not count towards the mandatory 6 Pylon Chambers. They still count as an Encounter for Durations. Rewards from these include Minor Finds, Major Finds, and Empty Centaur Heart.
